Graceland Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State, played host to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation team on Friday, January 24, 2025. The team’s visit was aimed at assessing the polytechnic’s programs for accreditation. The Rector of Graceland Polytechnic, Dr. Lateef Olatunji Ademola (FCA) mni, welcomed the team with open arms, expressing his appreciation for the NBTE’s efforts in revamping polytechnic education in Nigeria.
In his welcome address, Dr. Ademola commended the Executive Secretary, Professor Idris Bugaje, for his determination to provide critical manpower for the nation’s development plans. He noted that the NBTE’s policies, ranging from commencement of Technology-Enabled Quality Assurance to collaboration with international organizations like UNESCO and ECOWAS, are well-noted and will make a great impact on redefining and re-jigging the polytechnic system towards achieving academic excellence.
“These policies are beginning to give the Polytechnic sector a better look and this will invariably make great impact to re-define and re-jig our Polytechnic system towards achieving the much-desired goal of academic excellence,” Dr. Ademola said.
Dr. Ademola highlighted the polytechnic’s commitment to academic excellence, citing the institution’s efforts to provide quality education and training to its students. He emphasized that Graceland Polytechnic Offa is dedicated to producing graduates who are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete in the global market.
“We are committed to maintaining the quality and standard of Polytechnic Education in Nigeria,” he added.
The Rector presented the list of programs due for verification, and full accreditation, which includes, 1) ND Accountancy
– (Accreditation)
2) Institutional Administration
– (Accreditation)
3) ND Library and Information Science
– (Accreditation)
4) ND Mass Communication
– (Accreditation)
5) ND Elect/Elect Engineering Technology – (Accreditation Verification)
6) ND Science Laboratory Technology
– (Accreditation Verification)
Other programs due for resource inspection are ND Building Technology and ND Urban & Regional Planning.
Dr. Ademola praised the accreditation team for their dedication to ensuring the quality and standard of polytechnic education in Nigeria. He noted that the team’s visit is a testament to the NBTE’s commitment to promoting excellence in technical education.
“I wish to express our profound appreciation to the NBTE for their efforts in ensuring that Polytechnic Education in Nigeria meets the global standard,” he said. He wished them a successful accreditation exercise and a pleasant stay in Offa, Kwara State.
Graceland Polytechnic Offa has been accredited by the NBTE and offers various programs in fields like Applied Science and Technology, Business and Management, and Engineering and Technology. The institution is committed to providing a conducive learning environment and equipping its students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen careers.
The accreditation exercise kick-started after a conference meeting in which the NBTE team inspected the polytechnic’s facilities, and assessed its programs.
Dr. Ademola expressed his gratitude to the NBTE accreditation team for their visit and reiterated Graceland Polytechnic Offa’s commitment to academic excellence.
“Once again, I welcome you to Graceland Polytechnic Offa and wish you a happy and smooth accreditation exercise,” he said.
In an interview with The Peoples’ Mouthpiece, Dr. Fatima Kabir Umar, the NBTE Overall Team Leader and Director of the Polytechnics Programs Department, when asked about her impression of the institution and her team’s recent accreditation visit to Graceland Polytechnic Offa, she said: “What I can say about Graceland Polytechnic is, I met them, you know, what I was expecting wasn’t even what I saw; I saw more than what I was expecting,” she began.
Dr. Umar went on to elaborate on what impressed her most about the polytechnic. “Because I went through the compound, and I felt that the compound is worthy of a tertiary institution and they are worthy of the programs applied for,” she stated.
